When this client sought assistance from JBP Law's criminal defense lawyer, Jason Benjamin Pham, it was in pursuit of Jason's expertise in defending criminal drug charges. The case was regarded as one of the most significant drug importation cases in Australia. The allegations against our client were exceptionally grave, and the brief presented complex intricacies. Upon scrutinising the evidence, Jason identified the Prosecution's challenges in their case.

Securing bail for importation offenses is notoriously arduous, and avoiding imprisonment, particularly for the offense of importing a commercial quantity of drugs, is even more challenging, if not seemingly impossible.

The criminal defense team at JBP Law diligently compiled relevant case-specific materials and advocated for the client. Eventually, bail was granted in the Supreme Court, accompanied by a surety of under $10,000. This accomplishment itself was remarkable, as the common perception is that securing bail for individuals accused of such severe crimes requires a surety of $500,000 or more.

Months later, in 2021, during the trial at Sydney District Court, after weeks of strenuous trial proceedings by our Defense team, the jury delivered a 'not guilty' verdict for our client.

From the outset of the proceedings, we never wavered in our belief in our client's innocence. The jury's agreement after careful consideration of the comprehensive case reinforced our conviction.

Acquittals in importation cases are exceedingly rare due to the high standards that constitute the elements of the offense for a guilty verdict. This is because the AFP meticulously compiles compelling evidence and constructs a robust case against the defendants.
